Check the connections in the plug from the mixer where it attaches to the extension lead. A slightly loose connection will cause the mixer to cut out completely.

last year I had the same problem as Rowly with my belle mixer and had the fan replaced, its actually a very flimsy plastic fan
due to the fan failing damage had already been done to the motor so I ended up having a new motor fitted shortly afterwards and have not had any problems since
it could be the carbon brushes
What do you mean when you say checked the connections? The switches are a very common fault.
Check the cable for continuity , there may be a break in the cable, if you haven't already got one get a cheap multimeter to check.
Had a similar with a 110v Belle mixer. Fitted new 110v plug and lead into the mixer and the problem was solved.
The fiiter who rectified problem said it was quite acommon problem.
Since fitting a new plug and lead no further issues have occured.
either take it to a local hire shop to have their fitter repair it or you need to fault trace it starting as has been stated by the others with the basics like checking safely with a proper multi metre that you have a power all the way through the switch to the motor, the switches go for fun like the gear boxes. if youve got power coming out the back of the switch and into the motor and its still intermittent then its gonna be someone who knows about electric motors etc.
did you get it fixed and was any of our advice valuable ?
