Thanks thats really useful - Definitely one for keeping on file.
My main issue is finding someone who sells the Cleaning kits for the GCV160 carb as I need to clean the main jet which has managed to get a chunk of gunk about half way down it.
Had to use my snapper mower today to collect a load of scarification arisings and it was barely half as good as the pro46 so I'm feeling quite "meh" about it!
David, you can buy carb cleaner from Halfords etc, or blow it through with compressed air.
Hi David, might be worth a look at http://www.gardenhirespares.co.uk/c/honda_parts
There's a complete GVC 160 new carb there for about £30 inc VAT and postage.
Incidentally, I have 3 x GVC160 in pieces on my workbench at the moment, all needing new piston rings and one needing a conrod (has been seized). Great little engines when they are working right, the three I have in bits were sadly neglected by the previous owner who it appears never, ever changed the oil...
Might be worth fitting an inline filter after you have got the machine sorted to prevent this problem reoccurring - no matter how careful you are, there's always some grass/sand/grit that ends up in the fuel tank somehow.
Ultra sonic is also useful for cleaning a chainsaw carb after you put chain oil in the fuel filler.
:(
hi david
did you look at the youtube link ?
you dont need special kits etc for carb cleaning, just a can of carb cleaner a few rags and some electric wire so you can strip out a strand of the copper wire to clean out carb with out scratching or damaging jets etc
I did i Just felt using the kit if I could find it would be a better choice - however as we speak I'm spending my Sat lunch rebuilding a carb! The joys eh?
