Cancellation of works

I was asked by a building firm to do 250 running meters of stonewalling ASAP for them. I moved some stuff around and fitted them in, I was informed today that after the first property was done I was not needed back until March. The owner of the building firm knows I had moved back all my work till this date. I have found out that he was a bit annoyed with me doing the works as he is not getting the money for it. A lot more to the story but do I have a legal standing for cancellation of the works. 2 months of work is a lot.

Thank you for any help.

Dan.

If you have a written contract enforce it, if just a handshake I don’t see what you can do about it.
Why is a builder asking you to do the work if he wants to do it himself, something doesn’t add up?
Or maybe he has cash flow problems?
  • Can't quite work out why the 'building firm' would give you the job and then be annoyed he is getting no money for it.  It's hardly your fault if he forgot to add his commission onto your costs.

Sounds as though a 'face to face' meeting is required to see exactly what the problem is.......and I'd get that in before Christmas so that you can start the New Year knowing exactly where you stand.

I wouldn't think you have any legal standing without a water tight contract.

.... all depends on written instructions, contracts with T&Cs.

Verbal contracts may get work, but rarely stand up when it’s goes pear shaped, but agree with Colin - you need a face to face ASAP to understand where you stand before the Xmas shutdown.

Stone walling is an art and a skill to do it correctly, you don’t think maybe he wanted to see how it’s done then try to continue it himself with his own firm? Nothing surprises me these days ...
