More and more people are becoming aware of the BWC scheme run by Trading Standards, and won't consider employing any trader that does not belong to the scheme.

What happens when you apply to join the scheme is that you are checked out by Trading Standards to see if you are qualified to do the work you advertise for. The also check your (and anyone that works for you) criminal record, get references from customers, and any trade organization you belong to (such as The Gardeners Guild, BARLI etc).

You will find that in many places these day the local councils warn people not to trade with anyone unless they are registered with a BWC scheme.

    I applied for this a while back, however I got an email back saying my area (Worcestershire) don't currently run the scheme. Appears coverage of this scheme is patchy at the moment. I'll try again when I get a chance! But I do agree.

    If you are a member of this scheme it can dramatically improve your chances of getting some good work.
