Brick pond edging

Hi Guys. Will this work as pond edging?

Planning on edging a circular ornamental style pond with red reclaimed brick where the water is brimming over the edge. I want the top of the bricks to be dry. Is there a waterproofer for brick/ stone you have used that wont give the bricks a shiny coating?
