Blowtorching weeds

Does anyone use blowtorches for killing off weeds? I have a number of clients who prefer not to use chemicals in their gardens but whose paths, drives etc. need weeding regularly. Is a blowtorch a viable option and, if so, do you have any recommendations? Also, is there any risk of the heat damaging paving etc.?

I have previously, you need to get the paving really hot to kill weeds with large tap roots, not always successful. Which can leave black oily marks etc. Never damaged any concrete block paving permanently, haven't done much though! Quite effective on grasses and small weeds. moss will burn off and will sweep away easily but often only the top will blacken.

Need to make sure insurance will cover you...

I used a large calor gas bottle and roofers torch

    • Thanks James, good point about the insurance.

also watch it around plants with natural oils, like lavender, as they ignite very well!!
