Bloom or Doom

Well what a complete and utter mess the gloomy picture that we now see evident with countless reports of job losses well known high street retailers and Banks crashing an economy that is likened to that of a pernitious weed or the Hedera helix slowly suffocating us poor gardeners and landscapers alike.Well we will fight back and as long as we have belief we will become stronger, although I keep asking myself, Is their a bigger picture emerging on the horizon? What do you think?

  • Your not wrong it's hard out there, although a little ray of light over the last few days. Two phone calls for work in as many days, it just goes to prove people still require our services.

It's all about that horrible word, advertising - get yourselves out there and you'll be ok I am sure. we have 12,000 leaflets working there way around the South East of Essex so fingers crossed that phone will continue to ring..

    Good luck.
  • As mentioned I'm new to this year but my theory as mad as it might be to you seasoned gardeners is:

Those with houses that would of liked to sell to move up the property ladder, at the moment can't so maybe they will start to think of their property as "Home". Hopefully wanting the garden to look nice.

Those that are trying to sell, want the garden to look its best to perhaps make that difference, in clinching the deal.
  • I have had many desperate thoughts about the future in many ways - and I have a frank philosophy based on a age old cliche: Whatever will be, will be ...but with a twist...Just work hard and finding ways of getting new customers, and work to the best of your ability at all times....and then, whatever will be, will be. I think during such times, we just have to go in there and do our very best, because thats all we can do, it's both in our control, and out of our control. That's how I am thinking.
  • The economy might be in trouble but the plants are still growing. When people stop worrying about spending money, there are going to be a lot of gardens that need attention. I was worried all of January that i would never get a job again. However the phone has started ringing. Many people have money that they want to spend. I suggest spending any down time improving your portpholio and sales patter. Make the most of every call and charge a fair price for a job well done.

Good luck and dont despair ( have a pint or two when the going gets rough
  • I found this time last year exactly the same as now with no calls until end of feb. People tend to wait untill the weather gets a bit better and then look out and remember they have a garden and how nice it could look if a little bit of thought and work went into it.

Even though there are a lot of people losing jobs there will still be people out there with money to spend so heres to a properous spring and summer.
  • That does show that no job is too small and you get a bonus other job out of it. Top job well done!!
