    4mm will probably be a fraction too big making it difficult to consolidate properly and perhaps hard to screed. the coarsest grit/sharp sand you can find is fine.

    We have always used sharp sand on a lean mix base with absolutely no problems, even 20years later. Apparently the reclaimed material equivalent to sharp sand is just a good, but I cant testify to that.

    50mm of washed grit screeded over a compacted type 1 sub base is good.

    50mm is a bit deep in my opinion. Personally i aim for 35mm
