Beware the deadly selfie: More people than ever are dying while they fiddle with their smartphones

This year selfies overtook sharks in the worldwide sudden death stakes – eight people gobbled up by Jaws as opposed to 12 terminated by self-portrait related mishaps.

Some people are just so interested in getting the perfect angle – often in an unfamiliar location such as on a mountaintop or in the middle of a picturesque Spanish bull run – that they forget the absolute basics. Those being ‘don’t fall over’ and ‘don’t get eaten by wild animals.’
