I too received an email from someone who wanted to book our gite for three weeks in September. A quick Google of the email address reinforced by instinct that it was a scam.
Because my email address is openly advertised on the internet I get a lot of spam so I'm always cautious when receiving emails.
Basically, never ever open an email from a bank unless it is one you are specifically expecting.
When you watch an eleven year old hack into a secure network as I have it makes you very cautious.
It's important firstly to recognise these scumbags are active all the time. Take all precautions possible. Much like Paul's crazy secure mains heated locks on his garage!! Cyber world is somewhat alien to many of us - that's the problem. Got all my money back from bank. Really annoying that this Russian sounding guy got away with it in the first place though.
Us too probably about 200 a day with attachments. It's nearly at the point of asking people to phone first. We never look at emails that go into the junk folder, which are automatically deleted. There must be some software that can deal with scammers like this.
I upgraded a year ago and I used to receive about 75 junk emails a day and now I might receive 5 a week!
If you Google "Exchange Email" then there are lots of companies out there that offer it, I pay £50 per year for mine.

p.s. When I think back there was one email a number of weeks ago that I received from what what appeared to be a friend - in fact it was a viral email that was sent to all of her address book. I stupidly fell for it and clicked the link. Thinking back it did look suspicious. You can always tell. NEVER EVER OPEN THESE DAFT, BUT AT THE SAME TIME CRAFTY, LINKS!!!
