Best Drop Spreader for Lawn Seed

I'm a maintenance gardener getting up on my hind legs offering lawn treatments this season, plenty of demand but new to me operations. Bought an Earthway rotary spreader to spread seed and fert. It was ineffective with seed spreading but OK with fert. Questions:

1) Is it correct that you need a drop spreader to do seed properly?

2)- any specific models people recommend? Typical lawns 300 m2. Budget £100 ish, more if needed for quality tool.

Thanks folks.

  • We sow a lot of grass seed, currently doing an acre, we use a broadcast spreader, can't see a drop spreader working, but someone will probably say different.

As to spreaders, you're going to struggle at £100, we have a Chinese generic which is ok, plenty on the net at varying prices. Tip - look at the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere, look closely at the photos many are badged as different makes but are the same but have widely differing prices!! We also have an Agri Fab 45-0462 around £280 if you hunt around it's a good spreader with a reasonably effective agitator unlike the Earthway, hope that helps.
