Beneficial/Adverse effects of the Government's latest apprenticeships drive

I know this runs the risk of opening a recent wound on the forum but feel it is an important topic (hope you agree Phil!)
A friend of mine is MD of a charity offering apprenticeships to one of the biggest trades in the UK (won't mention which). He is extremely upset by the latest scheme offering cash to employers for a finite number of apprenticeship places with little regulation. His is a highly structured scheme offering services such as mentoring and college training to the apprentices. He now finds that the funding his charity recieved for this excellent setup is being drawn away by unscrupulous empolyers looking for cheap labour and offering no structured training for the so-called "apprentices".
As employers/potential employers we have a duty to properly train our employees for our own good, their good and the good of the industry as a whole.

    I agree - typical of our government at the moment - a sticking plaster response to the mess that is the modern apprenticeship scheme. It should have been so good but they managed to screw it up. It seems that all they are interested in are headlines with little or no substance to back them up.
    I think that what you have done is great Karl - it seems that it is up to us to do what the government hasn't. Do you recieve any funding?
