Bay trees in pots- rejuvenating

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend any feeds to bring on new growth to standard bays (laurus nobilis), which are in pots? Some are looking quite thin and there appears to be some die back within the head. There are also black spots/lumps on the stem and branches if anyone can identify and remedy?
