Banks and Roadside Verge cutting

Hi Guys,

Hope you all had a good winter, been to look at some work that require some roadside small verges and they also have a large bank running across the site which has a very small amount of whip planting on it. They've asked for my idea's

Do you think the roadside verges up to the banks would require cutting fortnightly in growing season?

If they want the banks leaving all summer would it benefit it to get cut down once a year??

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Andy

Could do with a bit more info on job, environment, etc etc. IE: Is it city, town or countryside, is it a housing development etc etc. Give us something to work with.

Just a side comment - just ensure you are aware of the H&S requirements for staff (class 2 hi viz etc) and restrictions for cutting roadside, especially if it involves safe working zones/cones/signs. It's an often hidden cost of deployment on such contracts.

As Brian mentions a picture or diagram is worth a thousand words ;-)

  • Hi guys thanks for the reply. Its on a housing estate no major roads the estateestate is on top
  • Of a mOuntian they have quite a bit of wooded area around the estate. I think there idea on the bank was to plant loads of whips then leave the area not to be cut. What should I reckon for them as its got some big new houses on there and is middle class thanks guys

Verges should be done twice a month through growing season. If their intention for the banking is for a wooded area then go for a bit more whip planting with spraying off of weeds till the whips are well established and then let it go natural with a hard cut back at end of growing season.
  • Thanks Brian that's what I was thinking. Very hard when they just give u a map and say they want it maintaining no meeting on site or anything haha
