Automating an Irrigation System

Not something I’d normally get involved in, however, it’s an interesting project so…Looking for suggestions for:1. a quality timer, which must include a rain sensor2. suggestions for watering planters, these are on castors so can be moved around the main purpose is to provide a moveable screenInterested to hear what you good people use.

Hi Richard - just emailed this to Simon at LWS and Alex at Blue Skies.
  • Hi Richard,

There are several options but assuming you would prefer battery operated control we have a controller called a Rain Bird WP series that has the same features as most mains powered controllers including a Rain Sensor option.

This controller works in association with a solenoid valve per 'zone' (the number of zones will depend on how big the system is and how good your available water pressure and flow is) although by the sound of it you only have a few planters so likely they can all run as a single zone. The alternative is a conventional tap mounted controller but the rain sensor option plus reliability is more difficult to achieve.

Main challenge will be to identify a means of connection/disconnection as it sounds as if you will need to move the planters around.

If you can send more details plus a plan we can work out a component list for you.

    Kind regards

    Simon Edginton
