At Abbotsbury subtropical gardens today

Always on "the list" of gardens to do, but as it only 20 mins from home, no excuse now.

So on a beautiful Autumn day we set off on what is a very nice drive, off the A35 at Winterbourne Abbas, then through some very beautiful countryside, with the sea appearing in view from time to time.

On arrival, I saw Trachycarpus, Butia and some Musa so was out of the car like a shot, some of my favourite plants.  Tina was more restrained, walking along with my Mum, who is down for the weekend, and our excuse to venture out.

We strolled around arriving at the Acer's

And the Phyllostachys

and then the Dicksonia antartica

Plant heaven!!!

To a stroll, well hike up Magnolia Walk and viewed from the very top, the other end of Chesil Beach

A visit well worth while for all "Plant Nuts" like us.  No idea why we have not been before, all of our favourite plants in one place, see you again verysoon Abbotsbury.

Steered clear of the Hydrangea Walk, they can't half move you know!!!

& Mum enjoyed the visit too.

  • Gaynor,

It'll be a very good place for a South West Meet Up, in around April we reckon.

Loads of Camellia, Azalea and Rhodo's and probably some of the largest Eucalyptus that you have ever seen, with beautiful peeling bark, no ordinary gunni there.

    Okay, another photo, blame JP....
