We thought you would like to know that Asulox for bracken control is now available for 2014 - having been given another EU Emergency Authorisation for use in the UK.
Once a favoured choice for bracken control there was an outcry when Asulox was removed for use by the EU. Such was the upset that the manufacturers & the Bracken Control Group worked on petitioning for its use and this resulted in the EU last year granting and emergency approval.
So if you want to use Asulox in 2014 please see the following guidelines: -
Guidelines under the emergency approval
- Asulox available for sale from today 19th May 2014 (stock yet to arrive - pre-orders can be taken now)
- On sale until 16th September 2014
- Asulox can be used until 31st October 2014
- All unused, un-opened stock MUST be returned to the supplier before the final use date of 31st October 2014
The best time to treat is when the bracken is in full frond but before the onset of senescence applied with a knapsack. (Senescence starts to be shown when the fronds turn dark green, turn glossy & are hard to touch and then brown). It is recommended to use a blue dye when treating bracken.

NB: If controlling bracken it is advisable not to handle or work closely with it in late summer, particularly in dry weather when spores are released, as some research points to the carcinogenic nature of this plant. Generally however it is considered that the overall risk of bracken is negligible.
