Are you having a harvest festival?

I've not had a serious veg growing season but I have been rather successful with the veggies I've planted this year. Early on the lettuce were superb and probably the freshest (well you would expect that wouldn't you?) and biggest I've had or seen for years. Tomatoes (not over watered to avoid a tasteless centre) were rich and succulent and I'm still harvesting the last of them - we've made purée, dried the cherry tomatoes, had them on toast and in many salads. I've got strings or onions and a bucket of garlic (although the cloves are not massive). We've harvested peppers, courgette, aubergine (awful) red cabbage (delicious) broccoli (disaster) Strawberries (not good as the weeds overtook the plants). La Pièce de résistance are the gourds, butternut squash and pumkin. I'm loathed to eat them because they make great ornaments.

  • Yup Toms a plenty, still working our way through them, cucumber, corgettes, chard, french beans, chillies and loads of butternut....

All worked out just fine especially the butternut, each one will probably do us a couple of meals and I think we have about 18 !
