Apprentice of the year

This time last year I started a young lad aged 18 as an apprentice
Ashley the lad had applied for over 80 jobs since leaving school and had not ever received a interview.
After giving him a interview I contacted Myerscough College ( collage that specialises in land based education).
Myerscough College interviewed both my-self and Ashley said all criteria s were meet and he could enrol with them on their apprentice scheme.
Rather than Ashley going into collage they have a mentor come and visit us around 1 day a month assess his work and set him projects to complete.
Top and bottom of all this they have nominated him for apprentice of the year award, I at first thought this was just against other Myerscough College apprentices doing the same course its not
This is against all apprentices who have been nominated in the North of England such as British aerospace British nuclear fuels Taylor wimpy homes Redrow builders and a all load of smaller company's such as me one man and an apprentice.
If he wins this he goes on to the national finals
If he goes no further than this nomination its a fantastic achievement for a young lad who felt he was on the scrap heap with no prospects in life just 12 months ago.
If you are thinking about an apprentice stop thinking and give youth a chance.

    Please keep us updated on how it goes. It's great news - We sadly didn't have as good an experience with an apprentice so nice to hear the positives too! It will make me think about it again in the future.

    I've told my apprentice that if he doesn't do well in it he's gonna be stripping turf with a shovel for a week! lol
