Apple/pear tree pruning

was planning to prune a few trees next week before its to late but noticed today

that they have started to bud probley because it warmed up early this week

they are about 20yr old and haven't been pruned for about 5 yr I was going 

to take off no more than 2 inch max thickness of branches would it still be ok 

to do....

  • Will be fine. I will be doing some myself. I have previously pruned some later than I would have liked and there were no ill effects. 

  • Go for it.

    ive always pruned apples etc well into March and thy respond absolutely fine. Better to leave it till the buds are swelling I think as you can select the healthy ones to keep!

     

  • It's not ideal but the tree will be fine. Summer pruning is always an option too and is usually done to create less regrowth on vigorous trees.
