What amazes me is people going to hardware stores and buying one. Some of them clearly have no experience with saws and really no idea what they are buying. I over heard a conversation in our local store where the customer decided on what saw he was having the sales guy then said now for PPE. On hearing the price of the trousers and helmet decided he wouldn't bother and just be careful. It should be Mandatory, basic trousers and helmet are under £100.
Different if you are working I agree.

However, some people attempt to do things without the skills or knowledge to actually know they are doing it wrong and are a danger to themselves and others.
I attended a chainsaw course at the now defunct local agricultural college many years ago. The lecturer, Bill, said the majority of accidents with chainsaws result in injuries to the person standing next to the operator, not the operator themselves. So if you see someone who doesn't look as though they know what they are doing with a chainsaw, don't stand next to them.
In fact the not standing next to people rule applies to a lot of things that go on in the world.
