Alloy Tripod Step Ladders. Safety Video from the USA

For those of us who are aware of tripod ladders but not certain as to their true function or potential I have found this related safety video from the USA. The video covers use for fruit picking and is therefore not fully representative of using them for hedge trimming etc, but does provide some insight as to their versatility and how to use them safely. It is worth viewing just to remind all us ladder users, well certainly me, of the ever present dangers that we can become complacent about. If you watch the video it can be noted the ladders used are not (to my mind) the best that is available. I would expect the fully welded design to be more robust and according to available information they are lighter. Also most of the better quality ladders have a tie between the third leg and the steps to prevent the third leg from spreading out. I realise however the tie would impose some restriction to their use.The more I learn about the latest alloy design, especially the version with all 3 legs adjustable the more I am convinced it will be money well spent over and above standard step ladders. They may even be a useful addition to those who predominately use podium steps, but as I have never used either then this is pure speculation on my part.. I know Paul (Pro Guard) who is a staunch podium step user and rightly so, tried a set of his customers tripod ladders but did not rate them. I believe however they could have been wooden or at least not to the latest lightweight alloy welded design, may be wrong though, Paul will soon put me straight, I am sure. Anyway, according to what I have read the wooden compared to alloy are like chalk and cheese. As mentioned in previous posts it would appear a version with all 3 legs adjustable will be available in the early part of 2010 at a much lower price than is current. If the price is right then I will purchase an 8ft and 12ft as I think this combination would provide the best versatility.http://wisha-training.lni.wa.gov/training/videos/V1294LadderSafety/V1294Broadband.wmv
