Aftternoon all,

Firstly hope this is ok to post this, not sure if I'm in the right section.....I'm going to be laying a patio soon, and I'm wondering will I need to add drainage channels along the side of my conservatory/house.

The red lines represent drainage channels and the blue on the oppisite will either be sleepers laid or a low brick wall stepping up to the other side of the garden, either way I'm thinking I don't want to put a slope in draining off to that side.

Any help/advice would be appreciated, thank you.

  • Personally, I would try and look upon this patio as the start of an ongoing project. Get it wrong now and it could be difficult to 'marry it' with what come next.  We all know that any solid paving should finish 150mm below DPC.  Yes a virtical DPC can be used and yes you can finish the paving short of the walls with a lower gravel level, but not as full drainage.

We have had this same problem a number of times and always found a way of taking the surface water away from the dwelling without affecting the existing buildings.
