Advice on building raised rendered beds

Has anyone built any raised beds recently? I want an L shape into the corner of a garden, one side fence, the other brick wall, at least 50cm strip of planting area inside, so not huge, but will have a floating bench about 2/3 way up. I was thinking concrete blocks? Hollow or not? What size? And what kind of render? Someone mentioned Monocouche - any experience of this? And would you need to build onto a hardcore base?

Many questions... hope someone can help
