Morning All, after some advice on a project we're working on.

Customer has ordered a large olive tree on a garden we have designed and are in the process of implementing.  The tree will be delivered in a pot on a pallet and needs to be moved from the front of the house through a garage and into the back garden where a planter will be built round it.  Access is ok apart from a lip at the rear of the garage but the issue is the tree in the pot weighs in at around 250kg.

Any ideas on the best way to move it safely and securely?  We do have a trolley rated to 300kg so were thinking about getting in a couple of big blokes to help move it through on the trolley and manhandle it into place trying to ramp over the garage door lip. All ideas gratefully accepted!

If the tree will fit upright through the garage and you can lay down substantial boards over any paved areas or lawns, could you not hire a pallet truck for this purpose?

I moved a EXTREMELY heavy AGA out of a house once this way, including over three thresholds, round a corner, out thep orch and down the gravel driveway.

  • Hi Adam, that's a good idea, thank you.  I'll have to check the height of the tree first though!

  • We use 75mm round posts to move a customers large potted olives around their terrace, bit like a rolling road. These must be close to 200kg. But again depends if it will go up right through your access.

  • Just a thought, how about a powered wheel barrow? Don't know how much they are to hire though.

Still got to lift it in there

  • you can get pot movers but i have not seen one that will lift 350kg

if you tie some hessian/sheeting round the top of the pot and lay it on its side a pallet truck or high ift pallet truck and a ply borded track to the hole might work

    • We've got access to a pallet truck so will try that approach.  Tree foliage is protected so we can angle it or lie it down and then put down ply for the final section over soil.  Fingers crossed we can move it from the delivery pallet to the pallet truck!
