How about making a less steep ramp using scaffolding?
as Ed says a ramp out of scaffolding also you can hire conveyors that are designed for the job

Hadn't thought of scaffolding. I take it you mean proper scafolding as opposed to band stands?
Shifta - thats the sort of thing I had in mind.
I have seen this done with standard scaffold before. Can add to the cost overall but that's life!!
