I was recently stopped by a man in his car , I thought he was going to ask for directions . But no , he is on his way back from a trade show and wants to sell off some of the demo chainsaws and strimmers before he gets to the ferry on the way back to Ireland ?????

I told him no thankyou , and he drove off so fast I didnt have time to get his number plate .

I think he was dodgey , probably selling stolen or counterfit goods.

What would others do ?

Would you buy a chainsaw from a bloke you never seen before at the side of the raod or down the pub ???

  • I get asked if i want to buy something from the back of a van quite regularly.. I just tell them i am not interested whilst keeping one eye on all my tools that i have out. you never no they could be scoping out the site as the next hotspot

  • I would say the highest likelihood is that the machines are the very cheap and often dangerous copies brought in by container loads from China. Also there is a chance that a supplier has been broken in to (It happened to F R Jones not too long ago)and are getting rid of stolen gear....Then there is the fact that they know you are a machinery user and are checking you out!

  • ALways remember, if you buy second-hand tools from a dodgy source the chances are they are stolen from a hard working trader like us.

When they sell out, they need to fill the van again. It could well be your tools they steal.

If there's no demand, they'll steal something else.
