Moving site

Its always a big deal for us moving from one garden that we have finished to the next. It takes about a day and several loads for our Ford Ranger pick ups. I am wondering what vehicles you all use. My husband is talking of getting a truck, which will make the move on a oner as well as pull our 3 tinne digger....any thoughts?

  • Mine is a citroen relay the gear linkage isnt great but over the 4yrs i have had it (touch wood) the engine is great.
Its on an s reg and iam thinking of getting a new one nxt year.
  • LWB high top transit & if slightly more room is needed the bigger Iveco. Lots of space and pulling capacity providing you get the larger engine.
  • Martin,
Do you think a citroen Dispatch would be too small. How often do u use the full capacity of yours and is it essential?
  • I mainly use it for garden maint and i dont need a trailer whch is a god send.
For me its the best panel van out there.
  • Hi,

I have a Renault Traffic LWB and a 10foot trailer - works well for me. It was in the garage last week and i hired a flat bed tipper. Although the tipper was great, the lack of storage for tools was a serious problem.

The towing is ok, i can get my trailer fully loaded with 2 Tonne and still be in the legal weight.

Saying that, ill be purchasing an older Nissan Cabstar or similar tipper as a second vehicle for one of my labourers.
  • Why would you need a tipper? I have thought about it but we get 99% of our materials delivered free...so am wondering what you use a tipper for.
I would LOVE a way to minimise skips on jobs, they are such a huge expense. We were thinking we could use a truck to dump our rubblish-just take it to the landfill ourselves....anyone doing that?

A tipper was one of the greates benefits for us when it came to unloading materials and waste.
  • So you didnt get materials delivered and you took your own rubbish away to the dump? We can go through £1000 worth of skips easy on each job. We are very construction orientated as opposed to soft landscaping incidentally-think that generates more waste...

We did have materials delivered but we were based just across the road (literally) from a small family run builders yard in Oakhanger and we would collect materials as we needed them in the morning.

This method ensured that we would not clutter up the customer site too much.

However, when space allowed, we would have larger loads delivered from Travis Perkins.

We also had a great yard at Selborne brickworks weher we could separate different wastes and there was an infill site there for no biodegradable stuff like rubble etc.

I should have added that we also sued to redirect hardcore type material for tracks and pot hole infill but we would also charge the customer to take away the waste.

I would keep a permanent skip in our yard so that small amounts of waste could be brought back as and when we needed to without taking up a clients drive space.
