40 inch hedge cutter? Thoughts please

Hi thinking of getting either a husqvarna or a sthil 40 inch petrol hedge cutter anyone got one? Are they too heavy at 6.5kg or is that about the normal now? Also are they any more use that a 30 inch cutter for day to day stuff , just thinking it would be an advantage for stretching over tops of hedges.

  • Up until recently I've always had a 40" single sided hedge cutter in my arsenal. Iloved them and fond they make a noticeable difference on the sides of large hedges. I've used both the Stihl and the Echo and really rated both. Not used the Husqvarna one. I wouldn't generally use them on shrubs and the like, always had a shorter 2 sided pair for that. I found you get used to the weight but they are a bit heavy. My longest is now around 32" as I have very few really large hedges these days thankfully.

  • Good idea re shrub use...it will be my main cutter, maybe 30 inch will be better compramise
