Terrain Aeration Services are specialist contractors called in to relieve compaction panning and waterlogging in turf and around tree roots.  With the onset of bad weather, following new build of properties and gardens, waterlogging will show itself leaving the householders with the terrible thought of having to have new drains laid to take away the water; disruption and mess.

Terrain's Terralift aeration machines are a well proven method in aerating the soil from one depth back to the surface, using a maximum of 20Bar (280psi) air pressure to fracture and fissure the soil.  Injecting dried seaweed on the tail end of the air blast is paramount as it swells and contracts with the moisture content in the soil, helping to keep the fissures open longer.  This treatment is repeated using 2m centre spacings on a staggered grid pattern and is a way of also stopping Phytophthora (water borne) problems for trees.   The added benefits are that oxygen is put back into the soil, roots are able to spread and grow stronger and anaerobic conditions are stopped.

Depending on soil conditions the Terralift can treat approximately 2,000m2 a day.  Once a garden is aerated to one metre depth, this treatment would not be required again, unless the grounds are subjected to visitors with heavy foot and vehicular traffic.

Terrain would like to offer Landscape Juice members 10% off the deep aeration treatment for each day's worth of work.

  • fracking on a mini scale :-) But seriusly what width restrictions are there with gaining access to properties with this kit?

I have been using the Terralift machine since 1991 and have developed different machines to access properties from a single back garden gate entrance to open spaces. I have been aerating the soil before "fracking" was thought of in recent times. Where Housebuilders have used a garden as their compound and since moved off site, the Terralift machine can fracture and fissure the soil, relieving compaction panning as no other machine can get into the garden. This treatment has proven itself to be very effective and long term. I operate throughout the UK and Europe. How can I be of some help to you?

  • It looks very impressive, I will pass your details on to a few of my clients in the South East who would benefit from this treatment.

    Hello Graeme, Many thanks. Lynda

  • do you have any experience of using it for general grass-land work - IE animal pasture?
I can see this as a very valuble tool, less disruptive than subsoiling, and especially so in fields with many trees - also Would be a "whole profile" soil tool rather than just shattering a compaction pan.

Do you also have any evidence regarding improve growth post treatment? I would be fancinated to know more, as I can see a use outside Horticulture....

    Hello David,
Thank you for your enquiry. We have treated paddocks, making sure that livestock has been moved away so that they are not disturbed when we released the blast of compressed air. Both turf and tree roots have benefited from this aeration process, with oxygen getting into the root zone and excess water able to percolate away from the roots, so stopping anaerobic conditions. The dried seaweed injected helps to keep the fissures open, far long that just using air only. The seaweed injected would not affect the livestock, in fact seaweed helps stronger HOOF growth as well as shinier coats! We have treated citrus orchards in Spain, making better use of irrigation water with resultant heavier crop yield. The Terralift has been operated in the UK since 1985, and used in a huge range of different applications.
