Playrite on Back to School Safety
The summer is now almost over and very soon it’ll be back to school time for thousands of children across the UK. So if you’ve bought uniforms, new books, stationary and school shoes you’ve probably already been concentrating on getting your kids back into the school routine. One thing you might not have thought about are the safety lessons you’ll want to remind your little ones of whilst they’re outside the classroom.
Research shows that playground related injuries are at their highest during the first few weeks back at school. Children are excited and nervous and often forget that when they are playing they also need to stay safe. So Playrite have put together a reminder of some of the playground safety tips both parents and children should be aware of:
- When children are playing before or after school ensure an adult is supervising – take turns with the other parents to keep watch
- Teach your kids the importance of proper playground behaviour, that means no pushing and no shoving!
- Remove drawstrings from hoods and jackets – these can get caught on play equipment whilst children are at play
- Avoid playing on non-impact absorbing surfaces such as concrete of gravel. Playground safety surfaces are widely available and can help to protect your children
- Encourage kids to know how to resolve problems without fighting – remind them they can tell an adult, discuss the issues or simply walk away
- Check the suitability of the equipment – look out for rust, breakages, vandalism or damage. If you aren’t happy with anything contact those in charge and let them know your concerns
