Garden fencing is key for protecting your pets, both from escaping and from attack by other animals. The best type of pet fencing will depend on your pets and where you live. The main considerations are, can your pets escape through a gap or weakened fence panel? Can other, unwelcome animals gain access to your garden and pets by climbing over your fence or squeezing through any gaps?
If you have a pet rabbit or guinea pigs in your garden then you will need to keep your garden as fox proof as possible. In addition to the wire hutch it is best to have solid wooden fence panels which are lined on the inside with wire mesh, at ground level, to stop foxes squeezing through gaps in the fence.
If you have a cat then you will need solid fencing which the cat can climb on and leave the garden via but which also prevents dogs from getting in. Closeboard garden fencing is ideal for this purpose as it is strong and secure.
If you have a dog then your garden should be a safe place where the dog can run around but is secure. This is particularly important if you have a new dog which is not yet fully trained. It is beneficial to line the inside of your garden fence with wire mesh, particularly if you have picket or palisade fencing, in order to stop your dog escaping through the gaps in the fence posts.
