Screwfix has managed to achieve zero waste to landfill at all of its 285 UK stores thanks to collecting and sorting its own waste and eliminating the need for waste collections.

The business, part of the Kingfisher Retail Group, introduced a system at each store where staff would separate on-site waste into two streams – general waste and dry mixed recyclables. These were placed in different colored plastic bags and taken away in delivery vehicles back to the distribution center where general waste is compacted and sent to an energy-from-waste plant.
