Wild in the City Hampton court 2011

I have a day off from the build that is taking part at Hampton court this year.

The garden I am building has been designed by Charlotte Murrell and is called Wild in the City.

It features a log wall that runs along the back of the garden and down one side, made from individual cut logs all at 200mil in length. These will be placed in position like a dry stone wall. The garden itself contains a wildlife pond and a circular oak deck and plenty of wildlife friendly plants. It will also contain insect houses and bird tables.

Two days in and things are progressing right on schedule.

When I go back tomorrow, the 9, 200x 200 green oak posts should be in position along with the pond and posts to support the deck.

I will update you all with more pics etc on Friday.

  • I love the idea of that wall, I wonder how well it would weather over the years though. Might have to give it a try. Looks good, keep posting those photos.
  • Day four of the build and Charlotte Murrels garden is really coming together.3314667284?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024All the green oak posts are now in and getting sanded. The pond is almost ready for the liner, a bit more work before that bit will be finished. Posts went in today that will eventually suport the circular oak deck. In the pic you can see Charlotte getting the deck in postion before it is finally slotted in to it's fixtures. Still a lot more to do, the logs should hopefully start to be placed in between the posts tomorrow a long with a whole list of things that still need to be carried out before the plants arrive on Sunday.
  • Day 6 of the build at Hampton Court and things are still progressing nicely. Log walls are being built, the pond liner is in and the oak deck is in position.3314422247?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

Pond still requires rocks, pebbles and gravel to be positioned and laid down, some post holes are still needed for the front and sides of the garden, then it will be the planting.

  • Day 8 and still going strong. 3314430175?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

The plants arrived today (16 dutch trolleys full) these have been carefully nurtured by one of the mature students at Sparsholt College and they look fabulous.

Posts and rope to be sorted around the garden & electric turned on for the water pump. Lots of plants to be positioned and planted.

If any of you are walking around the site during build up, pop along and say hi.

  • Waiting to see if we have won a medal for Charlottes 'Wild in the City' garden at Hampton Court.
  • Awarded Silver Gilt.

"Hi Henry - Sounds like the starter motor is trying to turn the engine over but it has jammed. You could try freeing it off by rocking the machine backwards and forwards. It may work. Did for me on an Etesia 124. Good luck."
