Ways To Improve Your Garden This Summer

So, it’s that time of the year again, summer is edging ever closer and it’s time for you to get those garden gloves on and get your garden ready for the coming months. BBQ’s and garden parties are on the menu and it is important that your garden is looking the best it possibly can!

One way you could make your garden look extra special this summer is by using garden mirrors. Garden mirrors allow you to create the illusion of a more spacious garden whilst also making the garden brighter by reflecting light into your garden. If you have a shed, you could replace the existing windows for mirrors. Any plants or decoration that you have will also be reflected in the mirrors and so can make your garden look even more colourful doubly pretty!

Many of you will need to buy some plants and flowers to decorate your garden although some of you may have already started to do this during the spring time. For those of you who haven’t, why not think about planting some new flowers. Flowers and plants are great for improving the look of any garden and are the perfect way to freshen things up. You might want to grow some around the edge of your garden or plant some to grow up your fences. You could also opt for some trellis fencing, which you could place anywhere in your garden and allow your plants to grow up them. This also means that you can divide the garden up into different sections, without blocking any of the summer sun.

Or why not think about doing something with your existing walls or fences? You could try decorating the fences or walls that you already have. You could hang plants from them or experiment with different colours of paint on them to make them brighter for the summer months. Some people have even started to paint murals onto their fences and they can look great although you may only want to consider this if you are good on the creative side of things! You could try buying some some decorative panels, such as continental fence panels or hurdle fencing, great for those giving their garden a makeover, or for simply adding that little bit of extra glamour to your garden.

As well as decorating your garden there are also a number of things you can do to help your garden this summer. These include;

  • Taking summer cuttings, during the summer many plants produce fresh shoots and so by cutting them you can increase your stock of your favourite plants.
  • Reducing the humidity in your garden. If you have a greenhouse you will need to open the windows during the summer months as this helps prevent disease.
  • Watering your hanging baskets daily to keep the flowers alive
  • Plant vegetables, many vegetables are best grown during the summer months, find out about these and get growing!

Whatever you choose to do, look after your garden over the summer, give it some love and you can enjoy the weather and the outdoors from the comfort of your own home, I know i will be!

  • Great article, an outdoor wood fired oven can also suit a garden revamp, for some it can prove better looking than a BBQ! Good luck with the garden revival this summer!

"I wouldn't cut a hedge without one. Anything over 6' you should get with 3 adjustable legs, otherwise they can be unstable if you lean - but positioned correctly they are the only way.

"Yes had that scenario where you can't reach a fiddly bit no matter what ladder and have to balance on the apex of a shed roof or do best job painstakingly with a long reach pole pruner . "

"We've just finished our second week, so that's a full round of all customers now, and didn't have a single one we couldn't do. It's been a really good start here in the north west and now with nice sunny weather coming up this week it's a great time…"

"I'm very wary of these tripod ladders, I took a life changing fall from the top of a 12ft tripod. Now I only use them myself with great care. The issue is that they are very unstable at the top if you lean to either side, and they go with no…"

"Done a couple of second cuts already this last week would you believe. It's almost as if the grass has a memory of last year's drought and is making up for it now plenty of moisture available"

"the tripods are good but in some scenarios the wide base and the fact the 3rd leg has to be placed some distance away from the step part for stability makes this large foot print impractical eg when cutting hedge behind a shed or greenhouse with…"

"Never tried these but always thought they look a bit of a pain to cart about. Looking at the picture, seems you're quite away from the hedge so you have to reach out more?   I just use ordinary aluminium extension ladders that you can easily adjust…"

"Tripods are better than any other ladder that's a fact. You can cut hedges that are lower than the ladder but it is more awkward, I have a 6ft amd a 12 foot been using both for the last 15yrs and haven't come stuck yet. Believe me once you've had…"
