Phew the rain has arrived at last, sounds funny after the wettest April but when your grounds are on sandy soil it does not take too long for the lawns to lose their lush look, still I am sure witht he current rainfall and our expert lawn care programme they should look good for another month, we have a couple of estate and large gardens who are on clay soil and although their lawns looked better, when we tried to weed the borders it was rock hard so hopefully this will help us this next short week.
We took on a large garden last year and I was very pleased to see that one of the 3 main criteria they set us had come true, the roses that climb all over the main house had been un-loved by the last contractors, however we set a plan in place to improve them and the walls were covered in scented blooms that would make anyone proud to come home. They have a mixture of rambler roses and climbing roses and to me the climbing roses has far superior blooms and less disease problems, my personal favourites are Climbing iceberg and Gertrude jekyll. All we really did was a bit of attention to detail, pruning out the dead bits, spraying against blackspot, caterpillar and aphids, and gave them some food, they loved it and responded well.
