What is the difference between Resin bonded and resin bound.?
The bonded or "scattercoat" process uses cold applied resins, screeded over the surface with a thin dressing of kiln dried aggregates.Once dry the excess is brushed off leaving a 3-5mm thickness .
The bound system involves encapsulating the aggregate in a clear polyurethane binder, using a forced action mixer, trowelled to a smooth pourous surface between 12-18mm in depth.
How long will it last?
Current resin technology suggest a resin bound surface should last between 15-20 years under normal conditions.
What type of surfaces can they be applied to?
Both systems need to be installed on a solid surface, ideally tarmac or concrete.Block paving or slabs can be removed and replaced with a permeable membrane.
Typical applications in clude Driveways,Patios,Footpaths, and courtyards
Will the surface crack?
NO if the system is installed properly, not over block paving or slabs.
Modern technology allows some flexibilty like tarmac.
How long does it take to cure?
the surface should be suitable for pedestrian traffic after 4-6 hours and 12-18 hours for vechiles.
How easy is it to keep clean?
A low pressure power washer and detergents can be used effectively together with fungicides to remove atmospheric pollution and prevent moss regrowth
What is the price of each type of surfacing?
This is a bespoke product,so no two installations are exactly the same.
Price depends on a number of factors including your choice of aggregate, the complexity of the installation and finally the size.
Can i lay it myself?
A compotent self installer or DIYercan install small areas of resin bonded aggregates.Specialist machinery is required to mix the resin bound aggregate,so it is best to get an approved contractor to install the surface.
