A number of residents in Manchester city centre have backed the ParkStarter scheme which aims to reclaim 'zombie' car parks.
Over the weekend, supporters of the scheme rolled out 62 sqm of turf across six parking spots, that were paid for to cover the full seven hours of the stay, and local people took the chance to relax and enjoy some Manchester sunshine.
A number of car parks have popped up in the city often created on derelict land, and usually stretching local planning regulations.
But residents have decided to launch a campaign to turn as many of the car parks as possible into green spaces and small gardens for local people and visitors.
Hundreds of people have already signed a petition in support of the plan, and the 'zombie' car park on Oldham Street, in the heart of the city, has been targeted as the first plot to turn green.
Those behind the ParkStarter have met local councillors and surrounding businesses to outline their campaign and to provide an alternative, sustainable, green vision for Manchester.
