Making use of the album feature on the network

I have just spent an entertaining few minutes clicking through the photograph albums that Laara Copley-Smith has created on the network. Laara has uploaded a number of photographs featuring her work and then grouped some of them together with the album option that's available to every member on their own photo page. And seeing them got me thinking has to how you can use the albums to show potential clients your work. As you can see from this page titled Flower & Foliage in the left hand column you have a few options available to you, these are: - View Slideshow This creates a full screen slideshow that slow rotates through the images you have in the album. And because this slideshow has its own page you can link directly to it, or even include it in an email. - Get embed code This provides you with a short block of code that you can include in any web page elsewhere on the internet, for example like this.

There are a number of features built into the display that allows people to click on through to the full page and view the images in better quality, but also get in touch with the person behind the pics. And as a final little extra twist, if someone sees your images and loves them so much they want to feature the same smaller player on their own website they can, plus their readers are only a click away from finding out more about the person behind the photographs. - Share This is a great little feature that allows you to not only email someone directly from the page to tell them about the album, but if you have an account at other websites such as MySpace, Twitter or Facebook you can update these internet outposts quickly and easily with your new photo album (the same applies for blog and forum posts). One of the things to think about with this new world of online media is that you can produce one piece of work, in one destination, and with a couple of clicks it can be finding new readers and creating interesting connections in different spots around the internet.

  • Hi Craig, this thread is so helpful plus it has led me to look further at other members work. Just left a comment for Laara about her stunning presentation. Thanks for all your time and expertise.

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "

"Yes 5' actual instant shaped hedging is very expensive, but if that's what he wants he'll have to pay for it.  A good compromise is use individual plants- you could use 1.5m, but 1.8 or 2m plants would probably be bushier, and by trimming to height…"
