Keeping your Garden Safe

With summer finally starting to appear, many of us, I imagine, are getting out into the garden and getting it ready for those parties and BBQs that we hold each year. You may have planted some flowers, started to grow your own vegetables and just generally decorated, getting it ready for guests, but one thing that is extremely important, is to check on the state of security in your garden.

It is fairly common for parts of our gardens become damaged during the winter months. Your Garden fencing may become damaged and gates may become rusty and break.Fence panels may also become damaged and could come loose and easy to move. It is important to check this as burglars could simply lift or move fence panels from your fence and gain entry into your garden. Check that fence panels are screwed in properly and that none of them are loose as you could be inviting potential burglars into your home.

It is also possible that due to the hot weather, you may leave windows and doors open during the day. It is important to remember to shut these when it comes to nigh time. Again, this will prevent potential burglars from easy access to your house.

Good, strong garden fencing can also help protect your garden. Garden fencing can usually be about 1.8 meters high (6ft) and you could also have a trellis on top of it for extra protection as climbing over this would make noise and therefore draw attention to burglars. You could also grow some spiky or prickly plants up your fence, as these would hurt anyone who tried to climb over them. Although a slightly more extreme measure, you could also have barbed wire across the top of your fence.

You could also think about adding gravel to your garden, whether it is in the front or the back. Gravel should act as a deterrent to potential burglars as walking over gravel is noisy and could easily wake you or a neighbour up and equally a dog.

Finally, remember to keep valuables inside the house. I-pods, speakers etc are commonly used in the garden in the summer and will obviously attract burglars.

It is important to not just keep your garden looking good, but to use it to protect your house as well and with a little bit of planning, you should be able to do both!

"It's interesting though how many customers see any creature within their garden territory as an intruder .
Fear of the unknown perhaps ?
Must admit though the unfortunate  label of slow worm does them no favours . "
