Greystoke gives SowGreen® Five out of Five!

Artificial lawn specialists SowGreen® have recently installed their Artificial Grass for Open Spaces at Greystoke Primary School in Leicester.

This is the third area of SowGreen® that the school has had installed, following on from the successes of the 2007 conversion of a wooded area behind the main playground, and the installation around an existing tyre park in 2008.

As Greystoke has already discovered, SowGreen® is the perfect low-maintenance alternative to natural grass, providing the ideal solution to any problem areas that are otherwise inaccessible. SowGreen® has already enhanced more than 100 schools, nurseries and public playgrounds across the UK, offering year-round use on a soft, textured surface that is both safe and clean for children to play on, more aesthetically-pleasing than tarmac or bark chippings, but without the added hassle of mowing, feeding or weeding a lawn.

The latest addition to Greystoke’s SowGreen® collection, a 200sqm play area incorporating a variety of shapes and numbers in vivid hues of pink, blue, purple and orange, has been fitted as part of an overall development of the pre-school nursery. The nursery’s existing mobile buildings were converted to a permanent facility by Coventry-based Central Site Accommodation, and the school was keen to enhance the outdoor play area with SowGreen® to allow the children to play outdoors all year round, as Head Teacher Mary Thornton explains:

“We’ve already seen how well the pupils have taken to the SowGreen® artificial grass in other areas around the school and it is important to us that the little ones in the pre-school nursery can make full use of the facilities we have provided for them. The texture and durability of the grass is perfect for our needs, the bright colours and shapes add a fantastic touch, and with no mud or mess to worry about – perfect!”

With the new SowGreen® playground fenced off to ensure the children can play in a safe outdoor setting, Greystoke Primary School can now enjoy a playing facility that creates a fun and stimulating learning environment for its pre-school nursery, whilst complementing the aesthetics of the natural surroundings.

In addition to replacing natural turf, SowGreen® can also be laid onto hard-standing areas such as tarmac or concrete, as well as around trees, tyres or play equipment. SowGreen® is also suitable around climbing frames or similar apparatus, as it provides a level of fall height protection that can be enhanced with additional layers of SowSafe™, geotextile pads positioned under the SowGreen® surface to add shock absorbency, which comes with a Compliance Certificate of up to 2.1 metres.

Technical Surfaces Ltd, the people behind SowGreen®, have over 25 years’ experience in the synthetic sports surface industry, and can boast an unrivalled knowledge of the latest techniques and innovations in the development of artificial turf. All installations are completed by their own in-house CRB-checked teams, whose working practices are accredited by CHAS, EXOR and Safe Contractor.

To discover more about how SowGreen® artificial grass can enhance your outdoor play areas, call the SowGreen® team at their National Office on 0845 621 7000 to arrange a FREE, no-obligation site survey and quotation. A sliding scale of costs is applied for larger areas, and your quote will be valid for 12 months, to help with long-term budgeting. So don’t delay – let the experts help you ‘Go Green with SowGreen®.’

"I have a 6ft pair of Niwakis, wish i’d had them years before I did. I initially got the 8fts and immediately realised they would be a pain for the majority of hedges I used to cut. I think they are brilliant just make sure they are seated properly.…"

"I wouldn't cut a hedge without one. Anything over 6' you should get with 3 adjustable legs, otherwise they can be unstable if you lean - but positioned correctly they are the only way.

"Yes had that scenario where you can't reach a fiddly bit no matter what ladder and have to balance on the apex of a shed roof or do best job painstakingly with a long reach pole pruner . "

"We've just finished our second week, so that's a full round of all customers now, and didn't have a single one we couldn't do. It's been a really good start here in the north west and now with nice sunny weather coming up this week it's a great time…"

"I'm very wary of these tripod ladders, I took a life changing fall from the top of a 12ft tripod. Now I only use them myself with great care. The issue is that they are very unstable at the top if you lean to either side, and they go with no…"

"Done a couple of second cuts already this last week would you believe. It's almost as if the grass has a memory of last year's drought and is making up for it now plenty of moisture available"

"the tripods are good but in some scenarios the wide base and the fact the 3rd leg has to be placed some distance away from the step part for stability makes this large foot print impractical eg when cutting hedge behind a shed or greenhouse with…"

"Never tried these but always thought they look a bit of a pain to cart about. Looking at the picture, seems you're quite away from the hedge so you have to reach out more?   I just use ordinary aluminium extension ladders that you can easily adjust…"

"Tripods are better than any other ladder that's a fact. You can cut hedges that are lower than the ladder but it is more awkward, I have a 6ft amd a 12 foot been using both for the last 15yrs and haven't come stuck yet. Believe me once you've had…"
