Gardens are wonderful things. Many people live in flats and work very hard dreaming of the day they can purchase a property with a garden and a patio. So if you’ve got a garden, why not protect it from trespassers? This could mean children using your garden for a game of football, to dog’s fouling the land, to criminals using your garden as a short cut or escape route.
Garden fencing is the best way to try to control what happens in your garden, and sends a clear message to anyone around that it is owned and cared for. Garden fencing is also good for decorative purposes, if your next-door neighbours don’t maintain their garden for example. You could also want a garden fence for security purposes, for example, to keep your children or pets safe and secure. Allowing your children to play in a safe, contained environment is probably the best reason there is to erect a garden fence.
There are several ways to fence in your garden and many different materials to use for fencing. Narrow or small gardens should generally avoid thick solid wooden fences as it will eat up space and dominate the environment. picket fences or iron fences tend to look better in smaller gardens.
Larger gardens look grand with solid wooden or stone fences. The advantage of stone fencing is that it is very hard wearing. The disadvantage is that it could take some time to build and have in place. Ensure that iron-based fences are properly rust-proofed so that you do not have to undertake yearly maintenance and ensure that wooden fences are varnished and protected from the elements.
