It’s like meeting the Duke of Wellington preparing for the Battle of Waterloo. Standing knee-deep among ranks of plants and shrubs, 30-year-old garden designer Matt Keightley is sketching out tactics for the Chelsea Flower Show.
The event opens on May 19, but the planning began last August – not long after Keightley had won both a silver-gilt medal and the People’s Choice award with his Help For Heroes garden at Chelsea 2014. His first-ever show garden, by the way.
Next thing he knew, he was issued a royal invitation to discuss a design for Chelsea 2015 – a garden to highlight the work of Prince Harry’s Sentebale charity.
