A TRADITIONAL ceremony which marks the arrival of spring has taken place - at the earliest time in 100 years.
For more than a century the blooming of six magnolia trees at the Great Gardens of Cornwall - a group of 12 of the best-known, largest, most historically and horticulturally important gardens in the duchy - have heralded the end of winter in local folklore.
The plants are currently sporting 50 blooms, the earliest they have ever been recorded in flower and beating the previous record set in 2013 by nine days.
