It appears that the robin and sparrow could lead a threatened life after legislation has been proposed to make the destruction of their nests easier.
The Guardian reports upon a consultation by Natural England, the body that advises the government on the natural environment, on how it has made the case for allowing people to destroy birds' nests and remove their eggs, amid growing concerns that they threaten health and safety.
However, some have questioned the impartiality of Natural England after it was discovered that the new Chair of Natural England, Andrew Sells, is one of the founders of Linden Homes, a major house builder, as well as a Conservative Party donor.
And why the questions? Because one of the problems house builders often face is nesting birds, as it is currently 'illegal to kill, injure or take any wild bird, or damage or destroy the nest or eggs of breeding birds'.
