While tea is normally imported from the other side of the world, the 100-acre Tregothnan Estate near Truro, Cornwall is to supply Waitrose supermarket.
Tregothnan Classic Tea and Tregothan Earl Grey tea is produced by Tregothnan Tea Plantation in Cornwall from over 100 acres of tea bushes and will be supplying over 300 Waitrose branches across the UK.
Tea is having a real resurgence against the threat of Britain becoming a nation of coffee drinkers. Sales of tea are currently up seven per cent on last year.
Kate Chapman, from Waitrose, said: "We're pleased to be supporting such a fantastic British product, with a strong heritage.
"The quality and taste of the tea are of a very high standard, which reflects the demand we're seeing for specialist teas from bespoke suppliers. We're excited to be able to offer Tregothnan tea to Waitrose customers."
The Tregothnan Tea Plantation is owned by the Boscawen family situated on the private estate in Cornwall which has been in the family since 1335.
The plantation started production of tea in 2005 despite many people doubting that the commercial venture would be a success.
Tregothnan tea leaves are picked between April and December, with the team starting every day at dawn.
Two leaves and a bud are plucked from each camellia bush which then go through a withering process on bamboo before they are rolled and left to oxidise and dry.
