The outline sketches for the long sinuous bench at Richmond Park were drawn by Jane Fowles then of LUC (Land Use Consultants).Collaborating with her on the designs I developed and made the seat finally delivering it on site in its galvanised and painted state. She also designed the hard landscaping there and in another area nearer Pembroke Lodge where I made three steel and oak benches.
The 'estate railings' visible in the background of the photographs were also mader at my workshop in Hampshire. Last year, 16 years on, I was asked to make another bench and replace the timbers. Fortunately I also became involved in a Waymarking Project in the park at the Isabella Plantation that is due to start this year.
The Poets Seat as it is now known was one of the first in a growing portfolio of seating projects that range from one that encircles a chestnut tree, another celebrating the life and apple of Richard Cox, benches modelled on an old cast iron bench by Taskers of Basingstoke as well as a simple but authentically wrought wood and steel Railway platform seat.
Variations are the spice of life so please let me know if you have any ideas for unique seats in any of your schemes. I am certain I can assist! http://www.richardfarrington.com/seats_richmond.htm
