Following the Association of Fencing Contractors (AFI) timber fencing report, Gloucestershire based business, Postsaver, is urging the industry to continue to support the use of wood.

The report claims preservatives are causing increased premature post failure, something that Postsaver’s patented Pro-Sleeve eradicates. The sleeve protects wooden fence posts at the ground-line, preventing decay from occurring. The product comes with a 20-year guarantee and is supported with independent test data.

The findings also come at a time when the continued use of Creosote is coming into question. The final opinion of the Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) is that Creosote should be classed as a 1B carcinogen and therefore recommends a licence to use the product in Europe not be renewed. A final decision on this is due later this year.

Richard George, Postsaver’s CEO, commented: “Wood products are not only visually appealing, they are also the most environmentally friendly solution so should be considered for long-term use. We understand that preservatives aren’t what they used to be and that the long-term use of Creosote is under question and that’s why we have developed a perfectly acceptable and now widely-used alternative.

“The amount of Co2 created in the production of concrete posts alone is enough to make an environmental claim for the continued use of wood but the lack of sustainable planting that would occur if wood use significantly dropped would have another environmental impact.”

“Whilst having alternative options available is important for fencing contractors, they also need to be able to fit wooden fences for customers with confidence in the changing face of legislation. That’s why Postsaver offers a 20-year customer guarantee and a warranty certificate which contractors can pass on to clients.”

Postsaver ground line barrier sleeves having been in production since 1994, are easy to apply and are very cost effective. Postsaver also supports the utility industry with an industrial version of the product. It works with a large number of fencing contractors and stockists and retailers globally to bring its product to market and guarantee the use of wood products for future generations.
