Olive plants and trees in the UK

This week I had a brilliant surprise , I looked for orders on my Gmail and Got one from BGSGraeme Mann- that was really great as the week was really empty from orders on my webshop. It was even better to see Graeme name there. At least I got many orders for olive plants from the E-bay listings!. No wonder as they looks great , full of black olives on.I am excited to get the next stock of them in just few days. Not many people know how hardy olive tree can be. the answer is when mature it be in -12c.In israel they were so popular as people see them as symbol of peace and due to their amazing bark that some olive trees have. You will see olive trees in many front gardens , in roundabouts, on pavements and parks. There are some really old olive trees of over more than 2000 years with incredible bark shapes.

Not many trees are very old as the Turkish in the Turkish empire used most trees for trains, about 100 years ago. But olives were productive trees so kept them to grow. Native old oak trees for example you can only near graves were they would keep with a respect to a holly place.

Last week I went to a Picasso exhibition in Tate gallery in Liverpool, I loved the pigeons collections that reminded me a beautiful childhood with many of pigeons under old olive tree in our back garden. For sure one thing was missing ...peace

I love olive - both as an architectural tree and to eat the fruit.

We briefly stayed in a property here and the lady planted a small olive tree in her courtyard; I could not believe the speed at which the tree grew.

Great to here business being done between network members too Ofer :-))
  • Hi Ofer,

  • Hey philip, Thank you, for your comment and for being here,
You saw me in the days that I nearly lost hope. as, unfortunately they used to say in israel 'when you fight with the back to the sea -you have to win'. As I invested all in it - i had no other way than to make it work well- scared or not I invested everything and keep doing it.
So far works ok... but getting better everyday.

You must have noticed my English getting better too. ''Great to here business being done''- caught you mate. best luck and many thanks

Steve will do, and perhaps that is the place that I should say that I always support trade prices to all LJ members even all small orders

"Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "
