I decided over Christmas that as we are at the beginning of a New year and a new millenium no less, that my website, which I've always managed myself, needed updating. The last few weeks have been spent trying to design the look and feel with the aid of my web-designer friend (who knows far more about SEO and tips and tricks to bring the visitors in than I do and has the technical know-how). My job was to revise and re-write the content to reflect the sort of work I'm doing now rather than what I was doing when I first designed my website 2 or 3 years ago. I'm normally not too bad about updating it regularly (which is one of the tips and tricks to keep it high in the rankings) but last year was a hard one and I hardly got round to it.
So, this time round instead of promising that I'll write regular updates i have decided to link it to my blog and my twitter account instead so it's very easy to add new content from wherever I can. This is done via a feed to the facebook and twitter accounts. All clever stuff. Web sites have come a long way from when they were first developed and just having one meant you were in the game. These days you have to be much more clever, getting both the message and the image across within the approx. 8 seconds that the average internet user spends on a site before they move on (unless there is something to capture them that is).
I will be uploading the site before the end of the month so here's hoping it's an improvement on the current one. www.theoutdoor-room.co.uk. It has been an interesting but time-consuming process. Will wait to see what it brings..
